Bye bye beloved Holiday...

"Oh my cupcakes!"

An ode to thee holiday...
Farewell my beloved, long summer days
to 10am wake ups and lazy ways
Farewell to all I hold good and true
for 10 weeks be gone till I return to you.
Far from me now only a memory
yes, two peas in a pod...
Holiday and me
xox

Haha! A little bit dramatic I know, but holidays and I have a strong relationship and I will miss her dearly...

Right enough of that, time for a catch up.  So, Miss Hania, my niece, had a wonderful 21st birthday on Saturday (not to mention that was the whole excuse for going to Tauranga) My sisters, mum and I were assigned the pudding's, we take such assignments verrrrry seriously... so we made delectable chocolate trifle's, creamed pavlova's, mum's famous steam pudding, fruit salad and hot creamy custard.

Traditionally, for family events such as this, the celebratory cake would be the delicious German Chocolate, however Miss Huni decided that she wanted cupcakes and so she made 150 chocolate cupcakes and her clever mum iced and decorated them... don't you just want to lick the screen? Mmmmm! And don't get me started on her theme colours... super dreamy!

Anyway, I assigned myself as official photographer of the event.. here are some of the ones I really love...

I especially love the ones of the B-girl with her sisters and her brothers...

So of course holiday time included some serious beach time, here are the kids having fun burying their big cousin...

And here they are following him in to wash off...

... and finding STAR FISH

We also went to visit some family land at Welcome Bay that has this stunning swimming spot...

So after all the fun of the birthday, a beautiful home, hot scrolls, beaches and rivers, beautiful Tauranga, we hit the road again...

...And I started work yesterday...

Oh but on the bright side, one of our lovely little girls from the junior class came in to visit with her gorjus little puppy... talk about getting a serious case of Puppy Love, she was so CUTE...

The gorjus Mrs H took this photo with her new iphone... so geuss what??? I got me a new iphone3GS from the Telecom website, afterall my trusty old apple green slide-up Samsung is a little over the hill and well
DAG-NAB-IT... I'm a blogger now and I need an iphone lol! PLUS I get to keep my vodafone number BONUS!.... I can't wait for it to arrive AND to use it and finally start taking picts like my dear friend and photographic inspiration 'Manahi' who lives in  the BIG apple... New York, New York!
He took this  stunning photo here with his iphone...

(Description in his own words...This is a beautiful 9/11 memorial, looking directly across the river to the spot where the twin towers were. I don't know the man walking through, but thought he might add something visually to the image.)

and also like Miss Elsie at a Beautiful mess... http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/03/my-favorite-iphone-photo-aps.html she is my fav person in all of Blog Land...

Ok blog land, thank you so much for looking at my ramblings, I have had nearly 300 page views, I have 4 followers at Blogger and 10 over at twitter and it's just been a little over a week... Sorry I didn't get around to taking photos of the dress I designed and made but I will do it this week...
maybe on Super Sunday...

Oh my Cupcakes!!! This is so long, I'll have to practise on
summarising better...
I'll be back on Friday
See you then blog-buddies

Hot Scrolls and Holidays...

Don't try this on a tummy full of scrolls...

...So we woke up to an overcast day today, not exactly beach weather like this pict taken at the Mount yesterday... mmmmm beautiful!

but I'm sure we can find something cool to do anyway.
Anyway no more procrastinating here is the magic scroll "how to..."

... and the cheat ingredient is this...

Champion scone mix, you can get it at Moore Wilsons or a different brand of scone mix from Gilmores, price is about $19 - $25 for a 5 kg bag... I'm not too fond of the scone itself, but add some lovely extras and it's right up my tastebud's alley... anywho, carrying on....
I usually never measure stuff, however there are instructions on the back for water to mix ratio, I did a BIG batch of 6-7 cups of mix to about 4-5 cups of warm water... (don't quote me on that tho, just make it to your preferred consistency).  So once you have a nice dough roll it out, rectangle pizza stylez...

Make a butter and brown sugar mix, like this, again at your own preferred measurement at consistency (if it looks like mine you're doing well)...

And spread it all over your rolled out dough...

Sprinkle with a mixture of sultanas and choclate chippies, my kids don't really like sultanas so I make half the mixture without them...

Roll into a snake, like so...

Cut into scrolls and arrange in a lined roasting dish... like so...

Let them bake for at least 30 minutes in a moderate to high heat or until lovely golden brown...

My recommendation is to eat these while still hot, preferably on holiday with a view like this...

Or pile them high like a mountain on a plate or cake platter... The last time I made these (excluding yesterday hehe!) was over a year ago, back then I drizzled a glaze of icing sugar and warm water over them with a drop of vanilla mmmm, thats if you want them sweeter than they already are...

You just CAN'T lose...  Its thumbs up all round... ENJOY!!!

....While I still have you and you have another spare minute, I would like to introduce you to the hostess with the mostest... the Beautiful Miss Rahera, Thank you bub for your awesome hospitality and making us feel right at home...

Miss Rahera hails from a family of beautiful women who have funky, feminine and stunning dress sense, I love her Mum and her Aunties original style... Young Miss Ra is a style icon in her own right and here she is...

Modest and chic, she grabbed a warm scroll on her way out to meet friends...  She wears her accessories flawlessly... don't forget the sunglasses and her little shoulder purse rocks!  These wicked shoes could give my jandals a run for 1st place fav summer shoes.

Since being in Tauranga I have noticed the style of the young-un's up here is very laid back, fresh, beachy and natural, lots of kids up town with no shoes, riding skateboards, carrying boogie boards, hair out and loose, very surfy-style... and so Miss Ra epitomises the style of youth in Tauranga.

Ok... this has been very long post, but I hope you enjoyed it, don't forget to leave comments and press the follow button before you leave
(pretty please :)

Thats me for the weekend, I will see you next week,
have a BEAUTIFUL weekend...

Fish n chips... wrapped in newspaper...

Today was a wonderful day, I am only posting (for the second time today) so I can show the SKIRT I made..., a very trendy and very now, striped maxi skirt, I made it on Tuesday and I wore it TODAY...

All it takes is some fabric cut wide enough to pull over your hips - plus a couple of inches, cut it wider as you go  down to the hem (like an extra long A-framed skirt... easy), sew up one side then sew an inch for the waist band, thread through the elastic then sew up the other side.

I was lucky to score this vintage (sort of thin sweatshirt material) from my sissy (yes the same sissy who moved to Australia last week, thank u Mrs K xox), this fabric does not fray so I didn't have to hem or overlock it and I like the casual semi rolled hem that this look achieves...

I got the T-shirt from the Warehouse for $7, I cut out the neck and sleeves to give it a more relaxed look and no matter how many shoes you have... JANDALS will always be the number 1 summer shoe for me, these are my green Ipanema jandals... love them!  The hat is my brothers, but he was throwing it out... score!

Tomorrow 'Mr C' will arrive to join in the holiday yay! (he had to stay back and work) so for the very very near future I see more beach, more picnic's, more swimming and more sand in little belly buttons...

YIKES! Its late... I'll make more scrolls in the morning and this time post the 'how to..." including my 'cheat' ingredient... then I will probably not be back until Monday or Tuesday (by which time I will be back in Masterton, with holiday well and truly over, struggling I'm sure to get back into work mode)... but I promise to have HEAPS of picts to put up... including picts of the DRESS I made (the same time I made this skirt - I think I just had a creation overload one night)... but seriously... for now GOODNIGHT...

Breakfast at Tauranga

Good morning! Well I don't want to spend too much time blogging cos we are in tauranga and have LOTS of holidaying to do... For breakfast we had porridge and I made these awesome choclate and caramel scrolls for morning tea BUT we had them for dessert (that's dessert after porridge) these are SUPER easy to make and I will show you how later on...  BUT check out the view I woke up to this morning... I am so grateful to the lovliest woman I know who offered her beautiful home for a getaway for us for the next couple of days... I am already feeling refreshed and energised...
Here are some picts of the ROADTRIP... It was a lovely day for travelling,  we practically had the road to ourselves...

The desert Rd, beautiful but also boring according to my kids...
Mt Ruapehu...

a.k.a Mount DOOM (LOTR)

Gorjus Lake Taupo... BTW most of these were taken by my 14 year old son who was in the passenger seat... not bad huh...

Now we have driven by this big stack chimney several times in the past but when my kids asked me what it was I could'nt tell them... anyone???
Have a nice day we're off to look at the RENA and a non-container spotted beach to swim at...
